October 2022 Sprucing at the Office

Oct 12, 2022

This month at the Spruce initiative we examine how Sprucing your office can help you achieve your goals in the work place.

Do you have a mountain of paperwork in your office, files or books scattered around? We will show you how you can clear up the mess in your space with a minimum of fuss. Put away just one item a day and in no time at all you will have a clear and clutter free space.

While our offices are not public spaces, they are spaces that other people visit or even share. Apart from the personal benefits that a clean and clutter free space has, a tidy office creates a good impression on the people who visit us. These may be clients, our bosses or coworkers.

Having a clean and tidy space gives the impression that we care about our work, work efficiently and will be responsible.

Having a clear space helps you organise your thoughts. A clear and uncluttered space leads to a clear and uncluttered mind. It boosts morale and makes for team spirit. It shows we respect others and ourselves. It makes for a happy work place.

Having a clean and clear office makes a good impression. Clients will be more trusting and more likely to return. They will be more inclined to give you that sale or contract.

Your boss will think you care about your work and will think you are doing a better job. You never know it just might help get you that promotion as it shows leadership skills.

Cleaning up just one piece of clutter a day sets a good example for your coworkers. Your coworkers will appreciate your thoughtfulness and perceive you as fair and respectful. When your coworkers notice how organised your space looks tell them how you tidied up just one thing a day and more than likely they will follow your lead and try Sprucing as well.

If you are the boss, Sprucing your office will set a good example for your underlings. They will respect your leadership and think that you have a steady hand guiding them. You will be perceived as being well organised and efficient. You are the boss: ask your staff to practise Sprucing and notice the improvement in morale that results.

When you Spruce your office, recycle your waste. Follow a clean and green strategy. Remember just taking care of one item a day when you are at work means you clear up as many as 240 items a year. Sure it takes time but it is effective and when you commit to clearing up just one piece a day it leads to completing one task a day. It ends procrastination. Once the benefits start to be felt we often pick up momentum and find we can do more.

A tidy home and office lead to a tidy environment and vice versa. Just do one a day and reap the benefits that Sprucing brings!

Cheers,
Felicity

Clean and green is our motto.  Remember: one piece a day sends the rubbish away!  Don’t just clean let’s Spruce.
