May 2024 How Spruce Supports Biodiversity

May 13, 2024

Here at the Spruce Iniative we encourage people to literally take a first step towards protecting biodiversity. For a healthy environment we need a clean environment. Just as you would not drop rubbish in your home so you should also refrain from dropping rubbish in our community spaces. And to protect the environment we ask you to go one step further and be prepared to pick up one piece of rubbish when you are out on your daily walk.

Picking up rubbish supports biodiversity in the planetary ecosystem. It is easy to do and it restores the beauty and health of the built and natural environments. The pledge to be prepared to pick up one piece of rubbish when we are out on our daily walk is taking the first step to support a clean local and planetary ecosystem.

What is biodiversity? According to Wikipedia it exists at three levels: species, genetics and ecosystems and is the study of all life on the planet. Biodiversity is short for Biological Diversity. Diversity of life is important for the health of both local and planetary ecosystems. Local ecosystems exist on land and in the ocean, in the built environment and in the Natural enivironment on land and in water.

Clean and Green is our motto and we ask you to consider taking a first step towards greening the planet by planting one tree a year for International Spruce Day January 5 th. Please consider planting a tree or some native flora in your location.

World Environment Day was started by the UN in 1974. The hosts this year for World Environment Day WED are Pakistan and the focus is on restoring biodiversity.. Restoring Biodiversity may restore habitat for people and animals locally and globally on land, in the water or both.

If you have a garden in your home or community consider celebrating WED by planting some native flora. This is a way of restoring the health of your local ecosystem. Native flora supports native fauna.

For the more ambitious supporters of the environment Australian company, Greenfleet offer carbon offsets for automobiles, jet flights and for yearly carbon use for each individual. The funds raised are used to buy, restore and protect native wildlife habitat.

Of course if we can reduce our carbon imprint this would be a much better solution. Prevention being better than cure.

It is challenging to change the way we live. However if each person was prepared to take the first step to clean and green the environment this would be the first step to restoring the health of our environmental biodiversity and towards a sustainable carbon neutral future.

Please consider joining the Spruce Initiative and taking you first steps to a clean and green planet. If everyone was prepared to do this much we would have a sustainable planet in no time. Have a happy World Environment Day.

Clean and Green is our motto. One piece a day sends the rubbish away. Don’t just clean let’s Spruce!
