Community and the Spruce Initiative
As the holiday season approaches we prepare to get together with friends and family. We cook special meals and we organise our homes. Businesses put up decorations and there is a spirit of cheer and mutual happiness. Rubbish on the ground is out of place.
In September was Clean up the World Weekend when people all over the world organised cleaning bees. The equinox marks the end of season in both the Nirthern and Southern Hemispheres. We clean in preparation for the year end celebrations.
Clean Up the World Weekend celebrates communities getting together to clean the environment. I remember one year I was on holiday in Kiama during Clean Australia Day, which is close to the other equinox. I gave up a morning of my holiday to join in the local Clean Up event. I made new friends, said thank you to Kiama for having me and left the town a little better than I found it.
Practising with the Spruce Initiative is something an individual can do which benefits their community. If enough people practise the Spruce Initiative hey presto no more rubbish!
Community groups can commit to practising the Spruce Initiative. Many hands have a cumulative effect on the cleanliness of the environment.
One piece of rubbish picked up by many people eliminates the accumulation of rubbish and leads to a clean environment.
When individuals and communities not only commit to a clean environment but also to a green environment we can all breathe a little wear. Communities where members each agree to plant one tree a year each in ther own or other communities.are giving a gift of life and beauty to the planet.
A clean and green environment is a healthy and beautiful environment. Leave the planet a little better than you found it. Even one piece of rubbish picked up a day and one tree planted a year by many individuals can bring lasting positive changes to our communities and our planet.
Please consider joining the Spruce Initiative and committing to do your part towards healthy communities and a clean and green planet.
Cheers,
Felicity
Remember: one piece a day sends the rubbish away. Don’t just clean let’s Spruce.
Clean and green is our motto. Remember: one piece a day sends the rubbish away! Don’t just clean let’s Spruce.
